Here, I bequeath what doesn’t belong to me
Born in the suburbs of Paris to Tunisian parents, Habib Ben Tanfous grew up and lives in Brussels. Habib, the great-grandson of another Habib, inherited his name and his history. What place does that history occupy in his life? Where does it fit? And does it truly belong to him?
With the solo Here, I bequeath what doesn’t belong to me, the dancer and choreographer embarks on a journey in search of his identity. Drawing from family archives, childhood memories, and recent personal events, Habib Ben Tanfous makes his body the epicenter of his research and a medium for his language. Visceral, delicate, and unique, his vocabulary expresses the intimate ambiguities of an omnipresent heritage, around which he builds a deeply moving dance. In dialogue with the music and voices integrated into the performance, Habib Ben Tanfous reminds us that we are not alone, but surrounded by the presences of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
