O Meu Amigo H.
Directed by Albano Jerónimo and Cláudia Lucas Chéu, “My Friend H” will have its premiere at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor with a strong cast, including Pedro Lacerda, Rodrigo Tomás, Ruben Gomes and Virgílio Castelo. In 1934, one year after he was elected Chancellor of Germany and having neutralised all opposing forces, Hitler had the chance to augment his power. On the Night of the Long Knives, hundreds of Party members were killed, the SA was extinguished and the political situation was brought under the dictator’s control. A new group of leaders entered the Government. Do we already know the rest or have we forgotten? The question raised by Yukio Mishima (1925-1970), in this very calculating play, can now be posed as follows: what can a Regime do when those it depended upon, those who manipulated the masses in its favour, suddenly become an inconvenience? The Regime can’t survive without the crowd, but does it have room for intermediaries or does it need to have direct control?
