Tó Trips
Lord of a discreet but significant continuous presence in Guimarães’ musical scene, Tó Trips has been playing the guitar for almost four decades, in a rare case of benign resilience and constant inventiveness. His most recent album, “Popular Jaguar”, takes inspiration from this animal - which moves in the shadows - to build small instrumental stories experienced by its author, in his most autobiographical work to date - the first that he has released since Dead Combo disbanded. A more than accurate title for Tó Trips' personal experience, the cover of “Popular Jaguar” features the guitarist in the shadows, as the figure that we are able to recognise, but never fully delineate. Filled with mysteries, silences and places, the album harbours various geographical references, allusions to transcendence and concrete everyday situations, in a vivid mosaic filled with lyricism, weaving together painful chords and notes that cut through anything that sounds superficial.
