Limbo
Considered to be one of the
most outstanding stage plays of 2021 by the Público newspaper, “Limbo”
questions the identity conflicts of mestiços (mulattos) and the horrors
of colonisation and the politics of racial hierarchy, to understand the place
that Afro-descendants currently occupy in the former European colonial powers.
“Limbo” is above all a form of intimate questioning. Victor de Oliveira was
born in Maputo, Mozambique. He spent his adolescence in Portugal and currently
lives in Paris. In this monologue, he starts with his own life experience to
try to understand why the disparity between whites and blacks is still abysmal
and the problems remain relatively the same.
