Massa Mãe
A new creation by Sara Inês
Gigante, which premiered at the Gil Vicente Festivals. In “Massa Mãe” (Mother
Dough) we find a “gaiata” (youngster) who describes part of her identity
–embroidered with Minho-style hearts. This artist from the Minho will “puxar
a brasa à sua sardinha” (toot her own horn) and prepare the ground to “tirar
nabos da púcara” (draw blood from a stone). Let's travel back to the time
of Maria Cachucha to make a toast with some vinho verde wine, while we get
into synch, which seems to involve one or two obstacles still left on the back
burner. It's not all “farinha do mesmo saco” (of the same ilk), but almost
everything from the bag of this artist from the Minho, who even as a young girl
already “falava pelos cotovelos” (could talk the hind leg off a donkey) ...
but that’s a whole other story. There are traditions (or conventions?) that go
hand in hand. Some are no “grande espiga” (big deal), others are brimming
with life and in good health. The truth is, we all eat the bread that is
kneaded by the devil and lick our lips afterwards. But today it is this Minho
artist who will be kneading the bread. Enjoy your food.
